What is dry needling?
Dry needling involved insertion of a very fine needle into the muscle specifically the trigger points of the muscle.
How is dry needling beneficial to me?
Dry needling can help reduce muscle tightness and Trigger Point activity therefore reducing and pain. It does this by causing a twitch reaction which in turn it relaxes the muscle by sending a electrical signal to the brain telling it to turn off the trigger point there for relaxing the muscles and reducing your pain.
I often also use a T.E.N.S machine to stimulate a muscle and therefore
giving it a more relaxed result.
How is dry needling and acupuncture different?
Dry needling is a Western approach and it targets muscular trigger points therefore reducing pain and discomfort coming from those muscular trigger points. Certain trigger points such as ones in the neck may help reduce headaches. Other trigger points may be giving you pain elsewhere in the body. An example of this is trigger point in your hip may be giving you pain all the way down into your lower leg and feet.
Acupuncture works on an eastern approach of Chinese medicine. There is a lot of overlap between trigger points and Meridian points which are acupuncture points. Acupuncture can help with things such as common cold or liver issues and so on.
What is cupping?
Cupping is the use of glass or plastic cups which suck the air out between the cup and the skin and fascia and the muscle. It produces a vacuum which sucks in the muscle and lengthened it. Cupping can be used statically which means just staying still or can be moved which is called fascial cupping. Fascia is a connective tissue which is found around all muscles and interconnect muscles together. Tight fascia is like having a tight pair of jeans on. Although the muscles underneath may not necessarily be that tight, if the fascia is tight then the muscles cannot move or function properly.
How can cupping benefit me?
Cupping can help reduce muscle tightness Trigger Point activity and fascial tightness therefore decreasing tightness and pain. It will also help improve range of motion and ease of movement.
Which treatment would you recommend for me?
As a Myotherapist and Remedial Massage therapist with over 10 years experience I will assess your current conditions and advise you on the best treatment protocols that I feel will help your certain conditions. Just because your friend had lower back pain and a certain treatment helped them it does not mean that your lower back pain is the same as theirs. It may not be caused by the same issues therefore the same treatment may not help you.

My name is Tung. I have been seeing James regularly for over 10 years now. I am a health care professional who live a very busy and active life. I play hockey at a State, National and several International tours. I have also had major knee surgery in recent years. James has played a major role in assisting with my recovery and rehabilitation in many aspects. I would also credit James to my day to day activities and also allowing me to play at a local level weekly with his preventative work. His ability to assess, diagnose and treat is very professional and effective. His range of skills, including his ability to perform alternative therapies, ie. cupping and needling, also makes the treatment I have received much more effective. He knows his limitations and refers on appropriately. I have often recommended James to teammates as well as family and friends. All have given positive feedback and have returned to see James again. I would highly recommend James as your choice of Myotherapist or Remedial Therapist.

I have been a client of James De Bono for about 8 months. I started seeing James for a back injury, I had tried a few other massage therapists before but from the initial time I went to see James I could see a big difference in by back. Being able to move more freely was a relief and the more I went the better I felt. He is fantastic at what he does and I would recommend him to anyone.

The combination of motherhood, and the physical demands of being a Veterinary Nurse (which involves a lot of heavy lifting and on the floor work), mean I am more often than not "sore to the core".
I see James for treatment every 3-5 weeks mostly for chronic musculoskeletal problems related to arthritis, and a reoccurring lower back injury which I've had for over 20 years. I always appreciate his thoughtful and experienced care, and am continually reassured by his sound knowledge.
My personal experience spans over 10 years with James, and has only ever been positive. He has always provided professional and effective treatment.
I have no hesitation in recommending James De Bono for all Remedial Massage and Myotherapy needs to friends, colleagues and anyone else who will listen!
